The Beings of the Night Sky workshop at Ysgol Gynradd Llangoed engaged pupils with our Welsh dark skies through storytelling, creativity and Welsh-language folk tales. The workshop explored mythology, star constellations and sparked imagination using the character Lleu Llaw Gyffes and his transformation into an eagle. The children created new characters in the sky along with short stories and drawings. The stories will be entered in the ‘Flash Fiction’ category at the 2025 Llangoed Flower Show. The newly invented constellations and star stories will contribute towards an upcoming publication ‘Dark Sky Stories’ as part of the Plas Bodfa Community Observatory project.

The workshop was lead by Anglesey creative Gillian Brownson. She is a multifaceted artist, writer, performer, storyteller and illustrator deeply rooted in Wales. Her practice harnesses the power of performance, storytelling, illustration and Welsh culture to empower communities—especially children and those with limited access to the arts—with imagination, participation
